Discover Glicks & Co. And 80/20 Classic Burgers

Walking into Glicks & Co. And 80/20 Classic Burgers feels like stepping into a place that understands exactly why people love diners in the first place. It’s casual, welcoming, and focused on doing the basics right. Located at 604 W Murray Ave, Visalia, CA 93291, United States, this spot has quietly built a reputation among locals who care less about trends and more about honest food that hits the mark every time.

The menu keeps things refreshingly straightforward. The name gives it away, but the magic lies in the details. The burgers are built around an 80/20 blend, which means 80 percent lean beef and 20 percent fat. That ratio isn’t a gimmick; it’s widely recognized by chefs and food scientists as the sweet spot for flavor and juiciness. According to research shared by the USDA and echoed by culinary schools like the Culinary Institute of America, burgers with higher fat content retain moisture better during cooking, resulting in a richer bite. You taste that immediately here, especially when the patty hits the griddle and gets that griddle-seared crust without drying out the center.

On my last visit, I watched the cook form patties by hand, press them gently onto the flat top, and season them simply. There’s no overhandling, which matters more than most people realize. Overworked meat can become dense, something the National Restaurant Association has noted as a common mistake in burger preparation. The result at Glicks & Co. is a burger that stays tender while still delivering that classic diner chew.

Beyond the burgers, the supporting cast deserves credit. The fries are hand-cut fries, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, a sign they’re cut fresh rather than pulled from a freezer. That process takes more time and labor, which many diners skip, but it shows a commitment to quality over shortcuts. Milkshakes lean into nostalgia with real ice cream and balanced sweetness instead of overpowering syrups.

Reviews from regulars often highlight consistency, which is harder to achieve than flashy menu items. A neighbor I chatted with mentioned stopping in once a week after work because he knows exactly what he’s getting. That kind of loyalty doesn’t come from hype; it comes from repeatable results. Consistency is also something restaurant consultants often point to as the main driver of positive word-of-mouth, especially in smaller cities where personal recommendations travel fast.

There’s also something to be said about portion control and pricing. The burgers aren’t oversized for shock value, but they’re filling. This aligns with broader consumer data from the National Restaurant Association showing that diners increasingly value balance over excess, especially when eating out regularly. Glicks & Co. seems to understand that sweet spot intuitively.

Service matches the food’s personality. Orders are taken with a smile, questions about the menu are answered honestly, and there’s no upselling pressure. That transparency builds trust, especially for families or first-time visitors scanning reviews before choosing where to eat.

One limitation worth noting is that the menu doesn’t rotate often, so adventurous eaters looking for seasonal specials might feel a bit boxed in. Still, for a classic burger joint, that stability is part of the appeal. You come here for familiarity, not surprises.

In a dining scene crowded with concepts chasing the next big thing, this place stands out by focusing on fundamentals. Good beef, smart cooking methods, and a diner atmosphere that feels earned rather than staged all come together in a way that keeps people coming back.

  • Very friendly, cheerful, and fast service. We had the veggie omelette, steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, and country fried steak. They have lots of muffins, cakes, and bakery items to choose from. The pistachio cake and banana nut muffin is excellent. Really moist and fluffy. Food was great- I love Mom and Pop Shop businesses!

  • I love coming to glicks, the meat counter is always great to experience! But I tend to be one of those customers that doesn't want to show up five minutes util they close, "they close at 6." Especially on Sundays because they close the meat counter at "1pm" and the clerk at the counter was very nice with helping me and giving me the information I needed to know especially when I ask when I should show up apposed to when they're closing down lol. I'd give this place ten stars if I could!
